Medical Institute

In autumn 2005, the Medical Institute of SumDU was established on the basis of the Medical Faculty, within which 2 faculties were opened – medical and postgraduate medical education. From that moment, the institute began training interns in the specialties: “Therapy”, “Surgery”, “General Practice-Family Medicine”, “Obstetrics and Gynecology”, “Infectious Diseases”, “Pediatrics” and more. Since 2008, doctors of the region have the opportunity to take advanced training courses at the Medical Institute. The director of the Medical Institute from 2005 to 2012 was Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Markevych Vitalii. Thanks to his efforts, the institution not only established postgraduate medical education, but also opened in 2012 training in the specialty “Medical Prevention”.

From 2012 to 2017, the Medical Institute was headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Smiianov Vladyslav. During his presidency, thanks to the support of the university management, the material base of the institute has significantly increased. In September 2013, a sanatorium was opened, which in early 2017 was transformed into the University Clinic of SumDU. In September 2015, a dental training and research building was opened. In addition, the list of specialties for which specialists are trained has been significantly expanded. Since 2013, training in the specialty “Dentistry”, and since 2014 – “Physical Rehabilitation” (“Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy”), “Physical Culture and Sports”.

Since January 2017, the director of the institute is Doctor of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Andrii  Loboda. Under his leadership, 2 new specialties “Pediatrics” and “Public Health” were opened, training for which began in September 2017.
