General information about the faculty

Postgraduate medical education

The Faculty of Postgraduate Medical Education within the Medical Institute of Sumy State University was established on November 1, 2006. The first dean of the faculty from 2006 to 2008 was Professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences Chemych Mykola, he made a significant contribution to the development of postgraduate education at the Medical Institute of Sumy State University.

The Faculty of Postgraduate Medical Education has the following divisions:

  • internship, headed by Deputy Dean Melekhovets Oksana, the candidate of Medical Sciences, associate professor;
  • advanced training of specialists, headed by Deputy Dean Sytnyk Oleksandr, the candidate of Medical Sciences, associate professor;
  • the Faculty of Postgraduate Medical Education includes: the Department of Family Medicine with courses in dermatovenereology (Head of the Department – Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Viktor Orlovskyi) and the Department of Pediatrics (Head of the Department – Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Smiian Oleksandr), Department of Internal Medicine – Postgraduate Education doctor of medical sciences, Professor Prystupa Liudmila). At the Faculty of Postgraduate Medical Education there are 15 departments of the Medical Institute.

The main purpose of FPME is to meet the needs of health authorities and institutions in the region in highly qualified specialists in various specialties through the formation of continuing postgraduate education, continuous training of doctors, based on the system of state standards.

The main tasks of the faculty in the field of educational activities are:

primary specialization of graduates of higher medical educational institutions of III and IV levels of accreditation in the internship;
obtaining by doctors of educational and qualification level – medicine during the internship in a certain specialty or after specialization;
conducting cycles of thematic improvement;
conducting pre-certification cycles in the specialties of therapy and pediatrics;
advanced training of doctors through training in clinical residency;
assisting health facilities in continuing postgraduate education.
